AwardsOne more Gold Medal for
A Secret History of the Ollie ! It was announced by
Foreword Reviews at the
2016 American Library Association (ALA) annual conference in Orlando last Saturday that
A Secret History of the Ollie took
top honors in Sports. I was there for the week with
Black Salt Press at booth 989 signing books and meeting librarians from all over the country, and world. This makes the 3rd gold medal for the book. In addition, the book was named "Best In Category for Illustrated General Trade" books at the 58th Annual New England Book Show in Boston and was selected by Mother Jones magazine as one of the Top Ten Photobooks of the Year. (Even though it's really a history book.) Librarians and other interested parties can get the book at 15% off from June 28 to July 31. Use code "ALA16" during checkout at
Black Salt Press.

Awards | PressMother Jones Magazine has listed
A Secret History of the Ollie as the “
Best of 2015: Top 10 Photobooks of the Year." The surprise here is that the book is not really a "photobook" per se, but the inclusion of over 1200 amazing images and photographs that help illustrate the story probably helped.

ArtSigned and numbered copies of the Bro Bowl print are still available through the museum store at the
Skateboarding Heritage Foundation website. Proceeds go to benefit
SHF and its operations, as well as its effort to preserve the historic 1970s snake run and skate bowl in
Perry Harvey Sr. Park in Tampa, Florida.
SHF was responsible for its
listing on the
National Register of Historic Places. The
Bro Bowl is historically the first structure related to skateboarding and skate culture to ever become listed.
